Cognitive Radio Testing

In 2014 4-VA awarded Dr. Carl Dietrich and Dr. Deborah Bandalos a grant called Efficient Measurement of Cognitive/Spectrum Sharing Radio and Network Performance. The project examined testing approaches for cognitive radios, which learn and adapt to share frequencies efficiently for internet access and other services. The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology projects over a trillion dollars in benefits from this sharing; better radio testing will help meet this goal. Dr. Roofia Galeshi of Radford University also contributed to the project as an expert in statistical measurement methods that help improve cognitive radio testing.

In 2016 4-VA awarded Dr. Carl Dietrich, Dr. Vuk Marojevic, and Mr. Ferdinando Romano of VT and Dr. Kai Zeng of GMU a mini-grant called Collaboration on Efficient Measurement of Cognitive/Spectrum Sharing Radio and Network Performance Option-1. Their research continued the focus on testing approaches for cognitive radios. Additional collaborations involved Dr. Deborah Bandalos of JMU and Dr. Roofia Galeshi of Radford University, both experts in statistical measurement methods that may help improve cognitive radio testing.
