4-VA @ VMI
Virginia Military Institute is a public liberal arts college operating in a unique military environment and offers distinctive perspectives and opportunities in engineering, natural science, social science, and the humanities to share with the 4-VA collaborative.
VMI is particularly interested in course sharing, course redesign, and collaborative research. At the center of these initiatives are leadership and followership. All three initiatives, at their core, are about teams of professionals, faculty, and students, coming together to define a problem, develop a plan to solve the problem, and execute that plan to success. VMI’s emphasis on leadership development challenges cadets and mentors to master working in multi-disciplinary teams to solve real-world problems.
VMI has collaborative relationships with outside research organizations, including the Naval Surface Warfare Center—Dahlgren Division, and the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. VMI is especially excited about the recent work in spring 2019 with JMU in support of the Intel Hackathon research initiative. Both our cadets and the students at JMU benefited tremendously from this opportunity.
